CBS Takes A Sober Look At A Sombre Problem: The Partying Trip Participants

By Dayo Gould
Mar. 27, 2006

On March 25, 2006, CBS aired its taped-in-February interview with Aruba’s Deputy Chief of Police, Gerold Dompig and, unfortunately, almost a month on ice didn’t do anything to cool down the not-too-pretty picture that was revealed to CBS’s many viewers.

Those who had watched Greta Van Susteren’s pre-airing interview with the CBS reporter on March 24, 2006, were mentally prepared for the worst when he stated that the Aruban LE possess “reports by witnesses (several) that Natalee drank heavily that night, enough to cause death. Dompig also has witnesses that NH had drugs in her possession. “

Vanity Fair article released a lengthy investigative article on January 6, 2006, (http://www.vanityfair.com/commentary/content/articles/060102roco01) which pretty much put the kibosh to that often-expressed fantasy which tried to tell us of the good conduct of the trip participants:

“This group of students was a very—I don't want to demonize them—but the group really went far, very far, in terms of having a good time," Dompig says. "Wild partying, a lot of drinking, lots of room switching every night. We know the Holiday Inn told them they weren't welcome next year. Natalee, we know, she drank all day every day. We have statements she started every morning with cocktails—so much drinking that Natalee didn't show up for breakfast two mornings.”

Sex, drugs and rock and roll. A far, far cry from the images trotted out in front of the camera lenses for the last 10 months by Beth Reynolds Holloway-Twitty, the media-maven-loving mother of the now-revealed-as-normal Natalee Holloway, the beautiful, missing-from-Aruba, Alabama semi-honours student who, according to various HMI websites, was awarded a portion of an eight-year, bus pass-endowed, full-ride scholarship for a four-year premedicine degree at the University of Alabama.

There have been some pathetic attempts to restore a bit of the lustre to the tarnished and tawdry Mountain Brook trip participants’ image, with one of the most hilarious being the participation of PlumbBob DumbJob in two fantasy-filled, on-air show and tells (http://www.useless-knowledge.com/1234/uk_news/article122.html) which floated this parody of the MB paragons of responsible drinking and self-chaperoned self-restraint:

“5…That some students were only 17 (the legal age for drinking on Aruba is 18), and that, unchaperoned and unsupervised, these 17-year-olds were expected to walk away from temptation and their drink-til-you-drop buddies and not go into the bars (and they wore the same free-booze bracelets as the 18-year-olds).”

Alas, alas. In the early part of this year, the FBI and the Aruban LE were crisscrossing America and conducting interviews with 17 of the 21 trip participants whose statements needed further clarification (yes, four trip participants did not participate in the reinterviews).

Those results are still held close to the chests of the interrogation teams; however, that reminder that the case was not considered to be cold and forgotten must have stirred some feelings of remorse or guilt in sacrosanct Mountain Brook.

Someone, either a trip participant or a charter member of that charmed MB inner circle which Natalee belonged to, released a series of photographs of pre- and post-vanishing parties held in Mountain Brook.

These pictures, viewable at http://www.refugeesunleashed.net/viewtopic.php?t=32, show us that someone has broken the code of silence and provided irrefutable photographic proof to help pop the protective bubble created and maintained by the HMI spin machine.

Deputy Chief Dompig advises that a picture tells a thousand words. The picture which these photographs tell is of a bevy of under-age boozers, laden down with loads of illegal-to-them-in-Alabama alcohol and with arms bedecked with a plethora of post-Aruba ‘Remember Natalee’ bracelets yet nary a post-Aruba tear in sight, carrying on with the on-Aruba conduct refuted by PlumbBob DumbJob (and some of the photographs show the same 17-year-olds who were purportedly practising self-restraint on Aruba).

If these photographs, pried out of a previously unmoved heart by pangs of conscience, were forwarded to RefugeesUnleashed unbidden, just imagine what may have been blurted out to the FBI and the ALE (and which they aren’t telling us about, yet).

HMI is in lockdown and damage-control mode, but it seems like it’s much too late to put the genie back in the bottle: it looks like the other 110-odd MB participants, who had no reason to lie (and whose parents must be appalled by the crass donation drives and commercialization) are unburdening themselves of repressed memories and, if they’re fortunate, maybe also that upstart Mississippian--who is a MBer by marriage only.

Save Yourself, lol. My dictionary defines a sociopath as one who lacks a social conscience, but who often benefits from the manipulation of others.

Wahoo, Natalee Holloway donation drives, with their tens of millions of dollars tucked away in non-reporting bank accounts or lump-filled mattresses. Wahoo, those owning a new Toyota Tundra and Harley Davidson Fat Boy. Save Yourself first!
